Zonegreen prioritises safety of staff and customers against Covid-19

April 2020

During this unprecedented pandemic, the well-being of our customers and colleagues is of paramount importance. Minimising the risk of spread of infection is a key priority.

The Depot Personnel Protection System (DPPS) has items that are regularly touched by large numbers of depot staff and contractors, meaning that it is possible for it to be contaminated with Coronavirus (Covid-19). All high-contact areas such as Road End Panels (REPs), Remote Access Panels (RAPs) and Master Interlock Key Exchange (MIKE) Panels must be cleaned on a regular basis.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

The minimum PPE to be worn for cleaning the high contact DPPS equipment are disposable gloves. Hands should be washed with soap and water for 20 seconds after all PPE has been removed, and gloves should be disposed of.

If a risk assessment of the setting indicates that a higher level of virus may be present, for example, if an unwell individual has operated the equipment or there is visible contamination with body fluids, then the need for additional PPE to protect the cleaner’s eyes, mouth and nose might be necessary. Please refer to the local Public Health England (PHE) Health Protection Team (HPT) for further advise on this.

Cleaning and Disinfection

All surfaces on the high contact DPPS equipment must be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

Items should be cleaned following the instructions below:

  • Using a disposable cloth, first clean hard surfaces for the REPs, RAPs and interlock panels with warm soapy water. Then disinfect these surfaces with an Isopropyl Alcohol based cleaning product or and EPA-registered disinfectant. The visual display units should be cleaned with alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol. Pay particular attention to frequently touched areas such as key receptacles and push buttons.

Please note that it is important to avoid flooding of the panels and datakey receptacles whilst cleaning, do not spray water or cleaning fluid directly into the datakey receptacles.

  • Wash hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds, and especially after removing gloves and other protection used while cleaning.

If you require any further information or support regarding the cleaning of the DPPS equipment please call
