Integrated as part of the Salvo Loading Bay Safety System Solution, the new Steering Wheel Lock acts to deter from accidental drive-aways for rigid vehicles at the loading bay by utilising trapped key interlocking principles to drive a forced sequence of safe loading or unloading operations. Available from May 2026, this is a new product development for the Sentric Safety Group, and one they are certainly proud to offer customers.
Salvo already offers safety solutions for other varied types of vehicles; however, the new Steering Wheel Lock is aimed at deterring accidental drive-aways for rigid vehicles 7.5 tonnes or larger. Once engaged on the steering wheel of a rigid vehicle, the Steering Wheel Lock provides an effective visual drive-away deterrent, and the mechanics are simple: the visual deterrent reinforces that the vehicle should not be moved and makes turning of the steering wheel very difficult.
When the key is removed from the Steering Wheel Lock, it is then inserted into the Salvo Control Panel or Salvo Manual door lock, allowing the bay door to be opened and trapping the key until loading or unloading is complete and the bay door is closed again. At that point the key may be removed from the control panel or door lock and reinserted into the Steering Wheel Lock, allowing it to be removed from the steering wheel and the vehicle can then depart safely from the loading bay.
